Our History

Undoubtedly, the wine industry in Valdeorras is and has been an important pillar of the economy of the region.

Thanks to the efforts of the parish priest of Larouco D. Bienvenido Arias Perez in 1958 and under the auspices of the Brotherhood of Larouco Farmers and Cattlemen, the idea of building a warehouse to collect much of the wine production of Larouco was created.

The Provincial Delegate of writing the following report: "... seeks the installation of a warehouse for its communal farm, for which the need is felt intensely to upgrade the cultivation of grapes in a wine region clearly, to achieve the full independence of producers through the development community of its wines; now dependent on the sale of grapes, a number of intermediaries who would impose their conditions at all times, ... .... "

In 1959 the Group of Association of Settlement 1870 is created under the name of Bodega Coop. Larouco of "Sta. Maria de los Remedios" under the chairmanship of its main precursor, D. Bienvenido along with 97 vintners.

In 1962 construction works start, although it was not until 1963 when the first harvest is produced. At present, this company is composed of 265 members, it owns vineyards in the western part of Valdeorras; it is concentrated in the municipalities of A Rua, Petinos, Larouco and O Bolo.

The bottling of their wines, though minimal, also was performed. The year 1965 marks the first were marketed "Larouco" and "Silvino." But the true beginning of the sale of bottled wine dates from 1986, when the noble varieties (Godello and Mencia) began to differentiate from other varieties.

Emerging new brands Arume (Godello) and Medulio (Mencia) From 1996 to date, this company has made a special effort in restructuring and acquisition of new technologies.

Now it has the latest wine-making techniques for the development and conservation their wines. In recognition of his career for nearly 40 years, the Council of the Xunta gave to our company the Bronze Medal of Galicia in 1997.
